I brought a rhythm machine to a hackathon.
Captured some sound memories & made new friends.
Then I sprinted for 3 days. I had to ship something.
Here’s some alpha, a recap, and a bloody 4-song EP we’ve made.
I hope you’ll see what i see.
Invite music into the creative process.
All it takes is a simple setup + intention. People will came up to talk. First about the gear, then setup, then what are we into… and finally, after the icebreaker, the realisation that everyone in web3 is close to music making in some way.
All 10 people that approached me while setting up loved the idea of capturing sound and music in real time at a hackathon.
Five gave me their details, wanting to jam (Shhhhh)
People will light up
One person in particular lit up the room. For me, anyway.
Crime! Talented, generous. He gifted us with the presence of the “Kings Voice”. He rocked up with a Starlink, a Bass Guitar, and pop-corn. We played an acoustic jam in front of Oshi Gallery afterwards.
Only a king can project poetry written by Lambie like this.
Goth Girl - 1st track off the Sound Memories EP.
Music is rare af
As we were recording vocal lines written by Lambie for the Memious game it dawned on us - we had the setup, and we were super inspired, so we should create the music too.
Make the whole package rare af.
And also, not capturing this Dark Pepe vocal by Crime… would be a crime
Pepe da Housecat - 2nd track off the Sound Memories EP.
Dark, filthy, soultry, pepe memes.
Sync
5 minutes into joining the team Meme Machines, I synced with everyone and everything project Memious. Thanks to music.
We were jamming as if we were a band. I know bands.
Cable smashing a trailer; Vectris another build. Lambie next-level narrative. I was composing music for the game.
Pepe da Housecat - 3rd track off the Sound Memories EP, and the main music theme for Memious, the game.
Gifts
Musical artifacts are a gift.
At the hackaton we captured dark pepe rhymes, dirty beats, king’s vocals, messy basslines...
After such a session, and perhaps one sleep, you go through what was captured and you can’t stay still.
One simply does not let NINE INCH PEPE die on disk.
So I decided to sprint, as if I was writing code, like Vectris.
Nine Inch Pepe - 4rd track off the Sound Memories EP.
Crypto is a disco
As we build, devs collect their prototypes, artists sketches.
We must add sound & music.
Rhythm syncs.
If we really want to challenge the status quo as we say we do, we gotta sync. It has to resonate.
Rhythm is a blockchain.
Crypto is a disco.
That’s the alpha.
